P e a r l a t t h e O o s t e r s c h e l d e, a sculpture for the town Zierikzee.
location: the square at the east-side of the big church in Zierikzee.
The map of Schouwen-Duiveland
as a big, flat shape (60 x 570 x 210 cm.) with a silver white pearl (diameter
60 cm.) on the place, where Zierikzee is situated.
The map as an organic shape, formed by its history. A black, shinny polished
surface with mat broken edges, similar to the diminishing coast of Schouwen-Duiveland.
In contrast with this the geometric beauty of the perfect ball. The laying
land, thus making a kind of pedestal for the city. The horizontality of the
landscape as opposed to the verticality of architecture, which one can see
here very well at the monumental pillars of the New Church.
material: granitto-concrete

The land- black polished with rough edges, in which layers of shells are used.
The ball- milk white with pieces mother-of-pearl.
