I was mainly concerned with the outside of the human being (form, skin), to which the ceramic process excellently lent itself, the hollow building up of volumes. I investigated further and deeper the inside; breathing, blood circulation, certain processes within my body. I sought a technique to show the fragile structures and vulnerability and however contradictory it may sound, exactly preserve the transient. In 1997 I was selected to participate in the workshop ‘cire perdue retrouvée’ at the art workplace Beeldenstorm at Eindhoven. By building up the sculptures out of plants and showing analogous processes I emphasized that we also are part of nature and grow and function according to the same laws.
